I designed all of the sensor antennas for SimpliSafe in addition to the central station and keyboard. Involving some 3 Million sensor units nationwide, the challenge was to create solutions for high-performance and low cost, within the tight constraints set by the industrial design team.
Agricultural
Varmints are responsible for millions of dollars of crop destruction annually. This system injects acetylene and oxygen into vast gopher tunnels which, when ignited, euthanize them via a concussive shockwave. Ignition is triggered by radio control safely away from the burrow blast entrance.
Test Equipment
915MHz circuit-breaker locator sold in Home Depot nationwide. Designed for electricians, it saves time by eliminating the need to walk back-n-forth flipping breakers. The integrated antenna feature also acts as an intuitive pointer and is located beyond the extent of the palm.
Wireless Alarms
Responsible for the welcoming “Ding-Dong” heard in convenience stores nationwide, this 418MHz IR system sounds whenever a customer is sensed entering the premises.
Biomedical Sensors
An implantable 2.45GHz pump used for dispensing experimental drugs to animals. This eliminates the time consuming need for manual injections possibly involving hundreds of subjects on a daily or hourly basis.
Sensor Tags
Shelfbucks has this product tracking system installed in CVS stores nationwide. It involves millions of these Sensor Tags on an annual basis.
Industrial Controls
A wireless control system using 2.45GHz radios to open and close large doors found in industrial freight operations. The antennas employed were upgraded after Range Tests proved the benefits of improved reliability and range clearly justified the increased cost.
Marine Controls
A novel antenna design cost-effectively solving water ingress issues whilst providing high visibility of the various LED status indication in direct sunlight. (Patent applied for.)
Sports Equipment
This is a remote controlled golf cart which uses 915MHz channelized radio. It features a fail-safe “Out-Of-Range function which limits operation to line-of-sight. Likewise a “Dead-Man” function which quickly immobilizes the Cart without regular inputs from the operator.
